PANEL DISCUSSION
The Green Future of Lake County
How green will Lake County be in 15 years? 30 years? What are the predictions for the green future of our region? This panel will explore these questions of sustainability from multiple perspectives. Panelists include:
? Randy Blankenhorn, Executive Director of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning will discuss GO TO 2040, the official comprehensive planning campaign for metropolitan Chicago. We?ll learn how Lake County fits into the regional plan, to be released in October 2010. Metropolitan Chicago?s prosperity will depend on how successfully the region implements GO TO 2040 policies, strategies, and investments in land use, transportation, economic development, environment, housing and human services.
? Jerry Weber, President of the College of Lake County, will explain how CLC is focused on preparing a green work force trained in green-collar jobs. They are developing a green economy center and a sustainability center to implement green solutions and sustainable technologies for their organization, as well as to support businesses and residents of Lake County. Part of Weber?s vision is to see sustainability centers at all community colleges in Illinois.
? Tom Hahn, Executive Director of the Lake County Forest Preserve District, will address LCFPD goals, including their 40 acres of open space for every 1000 people initiative, and how they the District is spending the 2009 referendum funds.
George Ranney, President and CEO of Chicago Metropolis 2020, will moderate.
