Good Evening!

As you well know, our area is under a blizzard warning through tomorrow, Wednesday, February 2, at 3:00 p.m. with an estimated 12 to 20 inches of snow predicted. In addition, winds are estimated between 25 mph to 40 mph, with stronger gusts possible. Whiteout conditions may result from the amount of snow and strong winds.

The following information was provided by the City and I wanted to be sure to forward it to you.

Please note specifically the items below regarding the Emergency Parking Ban, Potential Power Interruptions, Snow Plowing Procedures and Changes to Refuse Pick-up Schedules.  Do not hesitate to call 911 if faced with an imminent life safety emergency.

Emergency Parking Ban and Operations

As a result of the anticipated severe weather system, the City has instituted a parking ban on all

residential City streets beginning Tuesday, February 1, at 3:00 p.m. to coincide with the

commencement of the blizzard warning. The parking ban will expire 24 hours after the blizzard

warning expires, which is currently slated for Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Motorists should exercise

extreme caution and avoid driving if possible. Those who do drive should stay at least 50 feet

behind snow plows and other emergency vehicles.

Power Interruptions Possible

Due to the possibility of high winds and excessive snowfall, residents may experience power

interruptions during and after the weather event. Please call ComEd at (800) 334-7661 for more

information if you do experience a power interruption.  Note this number now, in case you need it later!

Snow Plowing Procedures

On Monday, the Department of Public Works began pre-treating City streets for the

anticipated snowfall to occur during the evening hours. The City is fully prepared with salt and

other supplies to handle this storm event. Presently, the City is operating under established snow

plowing procedures. The City has established 10 plow routes to ensure main arterials are

plowed. Residential sidewalks will be addressed as the storm subsides. If the rate of snowfall is

excessive, crews will convene a tandem team of plows to address the main routes, with

additional trucks committed to the primary routes and moving to secondary routes as resources

allow. Residents are reminded that roadways may be snow-covered throughout the storm, and

are encouraged not to use roadways until the storm ends.

As with any snowfall event, residents are reminded that when plows remove snow from

roadways, snow may deposit on parkways and driveway aprons. Residents are responsible for

removing deposited snow from these areas.

The Department of Public Works is focused on clearing snow from the public streets, eventually

along the full width of the street, so that melting snow can drain properly. Residents are asked to

remind private plowing services that it is illegal to deposit snow on roadways and the

community's cooperation is appreciated in order to keep roads clear.

through 10:00 p.m. at (847) 432-0800. As always, please call 911 with an imminent life safety

matter.

Lakeshore Flood Warning

The National Weather Service has also issued a Lakefront Flood Warning beginning Tuesday at

6:00 p.m. through Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. As wind gusts have the potential to reach 60 mph,

strong winds can result in waves building to 14 to 18 feet, with the potential to reach 25 feet. As

a result, the City has closed access indefinitely to the Central Beach due to projections for high

waves.

Public Transportation

PACE Bus will operate as scheduled to the best of its ability given the weather conditions. The

City has cancelled the Senior Connector on Wednesday, February 2, due to forecasted driving

conditions. Residents are encouraged to utilize public transportation to the extent possible.

Crews will maintain access to lots and platforms.
